GULFPORT SCHOOL DISTRICT AND BOLLINGER SHIPYARDS LAUNCH "BOLLINGER NEXTGEN SHIPBUILDERS" WORK-BASED LEARNING PARTNERSHIP

GULFPORT, MS — The Gulfport School District and Bollinger Shipyards have officially partnered to launch "Bollinger NextGen Shipbuilders," an innovative work-based learning program designed to provide high school students with a direct pathway into high-demand shipbuilding careers.

Through this new initiative, Gulfport High School students will explore the core disciplines of the maritime manufacturing industry, gaining hands-on exposure to five key shipbuilding trades:

  • Welding

  • Pipefitting

  • Electrical

  • Maritime Carpentry

  • Rigging & Fitting

Participating students will train directly at the state-of-the-art Bollinger Training Facility, receiving instruction and mentorship from seasoned Bollinger industry professionals. The curriculum combines classroom knowledge with practical, real-world application, ensuring students build market-ready skills before graduation.

"We are incredibly excited about this new adventure and the doors it opens for our students," said Jennifer Hornback, CTE Director. "This partnership provides our youth with invaluable hands-on industry experience, financial independence potential, and a direct pipeline into the Bollinger family upon graduation."

The Bollinger NextGen Shipbuilders program represents a shared commitment to local workforce development, strengthening the Gulf Coast economy by equipping the next generation of tradespeople with the skills needed to support critical maritime infrastructure.

Applications for the inaugural cohort will open to eligible Gulfport High School students this school year. For more information regarding program prerequisites and enrollment details, students and parents can contact the Gulfport High School CTE Department or visit the district website.
