Tammy Parker
Hi! My name is Tammarra Parker. I am a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, and I have been teaching at Bayou View Elementary since 1991. Prior to teaching in Gulfport, I worked in the Biloxi Public Schools. I have been in education for 31 years. In 2018, I was nominated and selected as Bayou View Elementary's teacher of the year. Teaching is not my job but my passion. I am excited to be a part of the Gulfport School District's team of excellence. I am a lifelong resident of the Gulf Coast and have always called it home. I currently reside in Gulfport with my son Andrew and our dog Sir Winston Parker. My pride and joy are my grandsons, Jace Hughson and John David. When I am not at Bayou View Elementary, I enjoy teaching, family, friends, the beach, cooking, shopping, reading, football (GO SAINTS! & Roll Tide), fishing, and helping children develop a love for reading.
My educational philosophy revolves around the mission statement of the Gulfport School District. I believe that ALL children can learn. Children learn in many ways and need a variety of tools and strategies to carry out the skills they are taught. I feel that teachers and parents should work as a team to enhance the teaching that takes place in the school setting. I feel that it’s very important for students to be able to relate the skills they are learning to what is occurring in the real world. This provides the student with the opportunity to use and apply the knowledge they are gaining outside the school setting. Children are our future; they are our greatest resource. Being an educator lends me the opportunity to not only teach but to learn with my students. I am my students' biggest fan and cheerleader.
