BA in Elementary Education
Mrs. Karen Rushing
With parents being the first teachers their child ever knows, I am honored to be added to a very exclusive list of educators that will grow with their child during their life. I cherish that I grow and learn from every student every year.
With a great love for children, it only made sense that I was drawn to education. After graduating in December of 2004 from the University of Southern Mississippi with my Bachelors of Arts in Elementary Education, I began teaching for the Moss Point School District. I taught in Moss Point for 17 years with extensive experiences all in the primary grades. Wanting to expand my learning and teaching I joined the Gulfport School District. This begins my 18th year in education. I am filled with excitement to be a part of the Gulfport School District and the Twenty-eighth Street Elementary Family. Watching students learn, grow, and broaden their love for learning is an incredible feeling. My goal is to help guide students to become Thinkers, Problem Solvers, and Life-long Learners.
When not working on school materials or in the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my family (husband, son, two daughters, my three granddaughters, etc..). Visiting with collegues and friends, crafting, painting, cooking, and listening to music inspires me with ideas that are useful with students. I love being able to help students grow into the productive person they will become.
