Mr. Tim Powell
Greetings!
My name is Tim, "T.D." Powell. I am the 8th grade Introduction To World Geography teacher and author of Finding Myself Through Travel: The Backpacking Adventure Of A Lifetime.
This is my 3rd year teaching at BVMS. I am pumped about getting this year started and expect it to be a phenomenal one!
I was born and raised on the Coast, and love living here. I earned a degree in history from the University of Southern Mississippi - to the top! then backpacked through Europe alone for 2 months, visiting 7 different countries before continuing my education to earn a Masters Degree from William Carey University. My students are often entertained by many of my travel stories when they are relevant.
In my spare time, I enjoy playing the guitar, hitting the gym, fishing, writing, and spending time with people I care about. I love history, I love to read, I love to teach, and I love my students.
My class is not easy. It is rigorous, reading and writing intensive, and will force students to develop the grit to carry them through high school and beyond. My expectation for students is to score an 80 or better on all assignments.
My class is also one that requires understanding over memorization. Memorizing notes will only get students so far. Rather, I encourage students to break down each part of their notes (point-by-point) into the simplest terms; imagining they are having to explain it to a 3rd grader. For further assistance, don't hesitate to reach out to me via email.
I look forward to another phenomenal year! Thank you in advance for your support!
