Mrs. Amy Smith

Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year!!  This is my sixth year in the Gulfport School District and I am so excited about this new adventure as your librarian!  My years as an educator began in 1994 as a graduate in Elementary Education from the University of South Alabama.  From there, I taught grades Third and Fourth at Faith Academy for four years, then continued at Cottage Hill Baptist School where I spent a wonderful year teaching second graders.  After a personal sabbatical, I completed my Masters degree in Elementary Education in 2005.  From 2008 through the spring of 2010, I had the privilege of teaching First Grade at Covenant Christian School for two yearsl.  My husband, David, was traveling with his job, so we decided to bring the family back together and to homeschool our children for the next seven years.  Once they entered high school, I pursued renewing my teaching certification in Alabama and earned my credentials in the great state of Mississippi as well.  During the Spring of 2018, I was given the opportunity to teach Third Grade once again.  As a life-long learner, with a desire to widen my knowledge in the area of education, I successfully pursued an endorsement in the areas of Special Education and Library Media Specialist and will continue to embrace future opportunities to learn and grow.  I am looking forward to working with your children as well as working closely with you, the most important individuals in their lives.  You are such an important part of their education!!  They need you and I need you too.  Together we will make a great team and will have a great year!  Go Sailors!!  Go Admiral Nation!!
