ABYGAIL THORPE

Anniston Avenue Elementary

Bayou View Elementary

La Sra. Abygail Thorpe servirá en las escuelas primarias Anniston Avenue Elementary y Bayou View Elementary. Como la cuarta mayor de doce hermanos, ¡tiene un corazón para enseñar a los niños pequeños! Moverse con tanta frecuencia durante su infancia ha hecho que se apasione por los viajes y el aprendizaje de idiomas. Esto la llevó a interesarse en la educación de idiomas, y se graduó con una licenciatura en Educación Secundaria de Inglés en 2018 y una Maestría en Lingüística Aplicada y ESL en 2020. En su tiempo libre, le encanta leer, aprender y escribir creativamente.

DARA FROST

Anniston Avenue Elementary 

Ms. Dara Frost will serve at Anniston Avenue Elementary School. She began her career with Gulfport School District as a kindergarten assistant at her beloved childhood school, 28thStreet Elementary.  There she was the third generation of Frost to service the students of 28th Street Elementary.  Coming from a diverse family of immigrants, Ms. Frost is proud to currently serve as an ESL Professional for the Gulfport School District.

La Sra. Dara Frost servirá en la Escuela Primaria Anniston Avenue. Comenzó su carrera en el Distrito Escolar de Gulfport como asistente de jardín de infantes en su amada escuela infantil, 28thStreet Elementary. Allí estaba la tercera generación de Frost para dar servicio a los estudiantes de 28th Street Elementary. Procedente de una familia diversa de inmigrantes, Ms. Frost se enorgullece de servir como profesional de ESL del distrito escolar de Gulfport.

CAITLIN WOOD

Central Elementary 

Mrs. Caitlin Wood will serve as the ESL Teacher at Central Elementary school. She is from San Antonio, Texas and has been in education for 10 years. She has been a classroom teacher in Texas in both ESL, general education, and dual language classrooms.  Her favorite book is One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Mrs. Wood enjoys reading books in both English and Spanish in her spare time. 

La Sra. Caitlin Wood servirá como maestra de ESL en la escuela primaria Central. Ella es de San Antonio, Texas y ha estado en educación durante 10 años. Ha sido maestra en Texas tanto en ESL, educación general y salones de dos idiomas. Su libro favorito es Cien años de soledad de Gabriel García Márquez. A la Sra. Wood le gusta leer libros tanto en inglés como en español en su tiempo libre.

KENDALL CASEY

Pass Road Elementary

Ms. Kendall Casey will serve as the ESL Teacher at Pass Road Elementary.  Ms. Casey is from Gulfport, Mississippi and graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2018 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. She has been at Pass Road Elementary since 2019 and is excited to start her new role as the ESL Professional for her school. 

 La Sra. Kendall Casey servirá como maestra de ESL en Pass Road Elementary. La Sra. Casey es de Gulfport, Mississippi y se graduó de la Universidad del Sur de Mississippi en 2018 con una Licenciatura en Psicología. Ella ha estado en Pass Road Elementary desde 2019 y está emocionada de comenzar su nuevo rol como Profesora de ESL para su escuela.

TISHELL RODRIGUEZ

West Elementary

Mrs. Tishell Rodriguez will serve as the ESL teacher for West Elementary School. She was born and partly raised in Lima, Peru and migrated to the United States at the age of eight. She obtained a B.A in Foreign Language Licensure from the University of Southern Mississippi. During college, Mrs. Rodriguez had the opportunity to study abroad in her home country of Peru. She has taught Spanish for the last two years and is so excited to start teaching English as a second language. 

La Sra. Tishell Rodríguez servirá como maestra de ESL para la Escuela Primaria West. Nació y se crió en parte en Lima, Perú y emigró a los Estados Unidos a la edad de ocho años. Obtuvo una licenciatura en Licenciatura en Idiomas Extranjeros de la Universidad del Sur de Mississippi. Durante la universidad, la Sra. Rodríguez tuvo la oportunidad de estudiar en el extranjero en su país de origen, Perú. Ha enseñado español durante los últimos dos años y está muy emocionada de comenzar a enseñar inglés como segundo idioma.

ALICIA CRUZ LARA

28th Street Elementary

Mrs. Alicia Cruz Lara serves as an ESL teacher at both Anniston Avenue Elementary and Bayou View Elementary. She is from Poplarville, MS and has been living in Gulfport for seven years, where she spent the past three years working in education as a substitute teacher. Mrs.Cruz Lara loves musicals, and her favorite one is “Man of La Mancha”. 

La Sra. Alicia Cruz Lara sirve como maestra de ESL en las escuelas primarias Anniston Avenue Elementary y Bayou View Elementary. Ella es de Poplarville, MS y ha vivido en Gulfport durante siete años, donde pasó los últimos tres años trabajando en educación como maestra sustituta. A la señora Cruz Lara le encantan los musicales, y su favorito es “El hombre de La Mancha”.

MARIAH JOHNSON

Bayou View Middle

Mrs. Mariah Johnson will continue to serve as our middle school ESL teacher in the Gulfport School District. She spent her early childhood growing up in the mountains of Jamaica before relocating to Mississippi. Mrs. Johnson has a passion for learning, which has led to her receiving two bachelor's degrees, one in International Business and the other in Spanish, along with receiving her master's degree in Teaching Languages with an Emphasis in Spanish all from The University of Southern Mississippi. Mrs. Johnson has served in education for five years where she currently works as ESL teacher. Mrs. Johnson combines her love for different cultures, history, and traveling and channels this energy and passion to her students. When she is not in the classroom, she spends her time attempting to conquer her wanderlust by traveling and lives firmly by the quote, "You never know until you go."

La Sra. Mariah Johnson continuará sirviendo como nuestra maestra de ESL en la escuela secundaria en el Distrito Escolar de Gulfport. Pasó su primera infancia creciendo en las montañas de Jamaica antes de mudarse a Mississippi. La Sra. Johnson tiene una pasión por el aprendizaje, lo que la ha llevado a obtener dos títulos de licenciatura, uno en Negocios Internacionales y el otro en español, además de recibir su maestría en Enseñanza de Idiomas con Énfasis en Español de la Universidad del Sur de Mississippi. . La Sra. Johnson ha trabajado en educación durante cinco años, donde actualmente trabaja como maestra de ESL. La Sra. Johnson combina su amor por las diferentes culturas, la historia y los viajes y canaliza esta energía y pasión a sus estudiantes. Cuando no está en el aula, pasa su tiempo intentando conquistar su pasión por los viajes viajando y vive firmemente con la cita: "Nunca se sabe hasta que se va".

MARTIZA BRYANT

Gulfport Central Middle

Mrs. Maritza Bonilla Bryant will serve as the Spanish teacher at Gulfport Central Middle School. She is from Honduras, where she graduated as an elementary teacher and taught in an American Bilingual school for over eight years.  She received her Bachelor’s degree in Spanish and her Master’s degree in Teaching Languages with an emphasis in Spanish and TESOL from the University of Southern Mississippi. She has worked as a language teacher at different school districts in the state and as a Spanish instructor at Louisiana State University. She previously lived in Gulfport, and her desire was to return. Therefore, she is excited to begin teaching her native language at the Gulfport School District. 

La Sra. Maritza Bonilla Bryant servirá como maestra de español en la Escuela Secundaria Central de Gulfport. Ella es de Honduras, donde se graduó como maestra de escuela primaria y donde enseño en una escuela bilingüe americana por más de ocho años. Ella recibió su licenciatura en español y su maestría en la Enseñanza de Lenguas con énfasis en español y TESOL en la universidad del Sur de Mississippi. Ella ha trabajado como una maestra de lenguaje en diferentes distritos del estado y también como una instructora de español en la Universidad Estatal de Louisiana. Ella vivió en Gulfport en el pasado y su deseo es de regresar. Por lo tanto, ella esta emocionada por empezar a trabajar enseñando su lengua nativa en el Distrito de Gulfport. 

GLENDA CILLIERS

Gulfport High School 

Mrs. Glenda Cilliers will continue to seve as our ESL teacher at Gulfport High School.  She graduated with an Accounting degree from her home country of Honduras, after which she pursued a degree from William Carey University with concentrations in English, Social Studies, and Spanish. Mrs. Cilliers began working for Gulfport School District 16 years ago in the Spanish Program as the program leader. With this program, she had the opportunity to be a trainer of five districts across the state of Mississippi, including Oxford, Greenville, Gulfport, Pascagoula, and Poplarville. Mrs. Cilliers has had the honor to present at MFLA, AMTESOL, and SETESOL. Since 2010, she has been working in the ESL program where she has taught K-12th grade.

La Sra. Glenda Cilliers continuará trabajando como nuestra maestra de ESL en Gulfport High School. Se graduó con un título en Contaduría de su país de origen, Honduras, luego de lo cual obtuvo un título de la Universidad William Carey con concentraciones en inglés, estudios sociales y español. La Sra. Cilliers comenzó a trabajar para el Distrito Escolar de Gulfport hace 16 años en el Programa de Español como líder del programa. Con este programa, tuvo la oportunidad de ser capacitadora en cinco distritos del estado de Mississippi, incluidos Oxford, Greenville, Gulfport, Pascagoula y Poplarville. La Sra. Cilliers ha tenido el honor de presentarse en MFLA, AMTESOL y SETESOL. Desde 2010, ha estado trabajando en el programa de ESL donde ha enseñado desde jardín de niños hasta el grado 12.
