Hello everyone!  My name is Joshua Lindsey, and I am your principal at West Elementary.  The captains of West have a great history of achievement and excellence, and I strive to continue that tradition.  My vision for the students at West is for each of them to feel safe, secure, and settled in their learning environment, so they may fulfill the mission of the Gulfport School District and become problem solvers, lifelong learners, and productive members of society.

I have been an educator for eighteen years, serving students in middle and high school as an English teacher and soccer coach.  Five years ago, I moved into an administrative role as an assistant principal, and I am honored now to serve the students and faculty as principal of West Elementary.

I was blessed to be named the 2013-14 Mississippi Teacher of the Year, which gave me the opportunity to travel throughout the country and meet educators from every state.  What I learned is students in Mississippi are just as capable as students in every other state, and it is our job to help them meet their fullest potential.  My goal this year is to continue to support the outstanding faculty and staff at West Elementary as they inspire students every day.

I have been married to Kristi Lindsey for fifteen years.  She is also an educator, teaching art, as well as being a nationally recognized yearbook sponsor.  We have two sons, Elijah (6) and Jonah (4).  In our spare time, we enjoy any type of water, from the pool to the ocean, as well as trying to keep up with two small children!
