John Barnett

My name is John Barnett and I am honored to serve you as the Principal of Anniston Elementary School. I believe education is the key that unlocks the door to the future.  I take great pride in being an educator and I strive to help make a positive difference in the lives of our students.

I received my Bachelor of Arts in Education with an emphasis in Social Studies from The University of Mississippi in 2008. I received my Master of Education in Educational Leadership as a member of the Ole Miss Principal Corps in 2014.

I began my career in education with the Tishomingo County School District at Tishomingo County High School.  I taught U.S. History, Mississippi Studies, World Geography, World History, Science Skills and Reasoning, and Physical Science.  I also served as an assistant coach for the football and baseball teams.

During my Principal Corps experience at Ole Miss I served as an intern assistant principal with Corinth High School in the Corinth School District.  I also served as an intern assistant principal at Iuka Elementary School in the Tishomingo County School District.  When I graduated from the Principal Corps I was hired as Assistant Principal at Long Beach Middle School.  I am now honored to serve the Gulfport School District as Principal of Anniston Elementary School.

Anniston Elementary is a tradition rich school with a long standing emphasis on achieving excellence.  We are excited to continue this legacy by striving to fulfil the mission of the Gulfport School District guiding students to become problem solvers, lifelong learners, and productive members of society.  Our motto is Anniston…Achieving Excellence Starts Here!
