Ms. Leslie Mullinix

Welcome to Kindergarten!

Dear Parents,

I hope you have had a wonderful summer! I am looking forward to the upcoming school year as I get to know and work with your child. As an early education educator, I understand that communication between parents and school is an important part of your child’s learning. We will need to communicate regularly in order to ensure your child makes a smooth transition from school to home each day.

Please be sure to alert me of any concerns you may have, and I will inform you of any concerns that arise. To assist in regular communication, be sure to check your child’s Monthly Behavior Chart each night that lists your child's behavior each day. This must be initialed daily. Your child’s homework will consist of skills covered previously and for that week, and it must be initialed daily, as well.

To further assist your child, please be sure to notify me of any changes that may be occurring at home which may affect your child’s behavior. Sometimes parents not being home, illnesses, visiting relatives, or nightmares may show up in the classroom as anger, fear, sadness, or excitement. I will do my very best to help your child adjust to any changes when I know when he or she is upset.
The best ways to keep in contact with me would be through a note, an email to leslie.mullinix@gulfportschools.org, or a phone call to the school at 865-4659. If for any reason you must speak with me in person, please schedule an appointment before or after school.

Above all, please know that our doors are always open. If you feel the need to speak to me concerning your child, please do not hesitate to contact me. Good communication between school and home is important. Kindergarten Conference time is from 9:15 - 9:45 Monday – Thursday. Anything that concerns you about your child could affect his/her ability to learn and therefore affects me as well.

Class Rules
1. Be Safe
2. Be Respectful
3. Be Responsible

We will begin each day with a Speaking and Listening Activity that focuses on using Conscious Discipline methods which includes the following:
• Greeting Each Other (safe distancing activities)
• Attendance
• Wish You Well (for those who need a little extra encouragement that day)

• A Selected Reading (Carpet Time)
• Daily Reading of our Essential Questions for the Day
• Review of our daily Agenda

Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to be a part of your child’s life. Thank you, as well, for your cooperation as we work together to ensure your child has a positive learning experience this school year!

Sincerely,
Ms. Mullinix, M.Ed
