Ms. Joycelyn Lorenzo, M.Ed., NBCT

Aside from the two years when my father was stationed in Subic Bay, Philippines and San Diego, California (he served in the Navy for 22 years), I have lived in Gulfport for pretty much my whole life! I am a 2001 high honors graduate from Harrison Central High School, and I graduated with honors from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. In May 2011, I graduated from William Carey University with a Master's Degree in Secondary Education. I have teaching endorsements in Mathematics (7-12) and General Science (7-12). I am also a National Board Certified Teacher in Early Adolescence Mathematics. The 2021-2022 school year will mark my 15th year teaching in the Gulfport School District and at BVMS -- it will be my 11th year teaching 8th Grade Math, and prior to teaching 8th grade, I taught 7th Grade Math and Pre-Algebra.  I'm also in my 8th year as assistant cheer coach for BVMS.

In my spare time, I love to watch movies, listen to music (fun fact -- I'm a huge BTS fan -- they're a boy band from South Korea!), go shopping, watch sporting events, travel (my favorite trips have been to Seoul, South Korea and to visit my family in the Philippines!), and spend time with my friends and my eight-year-old beagle named Baylee. My favorite colors are teal, purple, and coral, and my favorite foods are Filipino food (both of my parents are from the Philippines) and sushi (yum!). Even though I am a math teacher, I love to read -- my favorite books are the Harry Potter series, the Hunger Games trilogy, and Pride and Prejudice. I am a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Fraternity.
