Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to reside within the Gulfport School District in order to enroll in a class?
¤ Absolutely not! Registration is open to the general public (18 & older) on a first come/first served basis. However, there are some exceptions on some classes. You will need to contact the Comm. Ed. Director before enrolling anyone under the age of 18.
Do I have to pre-register for the class I want to take?
¤ Yes. There are several reasons for this:
Most classes have limited seating due to classroom size and the student/teacher ratio. For example: Some classes are more hands-on and we want to ensure that each student receives the best experience possible by maintaining a fair student/teacher ratio.
In order for a class to be held, we need to have sufficient enrollment. This is normally a minimum of 12 participants. Your registration may make the difference so early registration is encouraged!
First night of classes are extremely busy. We are helping students to find the correct classroom and dealing with last minute issues that always seem to pop up. So...unless you have a special circumstance which you have confirmed with the Comm. Ed. Director before your class start date...then absolutely no registrations will be done the first night of classes.
If you have a coupon you must call the office and let us know so we can hold that spot for you.
Do I have to have a high school diploma or a GED before I take one of your vocational classes?
¤ No. However, most employers will require proof of one or the other.
¤ Medical classes that offer testing for national certifications do require that you have one or the other and we are now requiring that you bring that with you to class the first night.
Will Community Education help me to find a job once I complete my class?
¤ Community Education does not do job placement. We simply do not have the resources to do so. However, if your instructor knows of job openings, he/she will share that info with you. This office deals with employers looking for qualified applicants all the time and we are more than happy to pass that info on to our instructors.
Is it okay for me to bring my child to class if I'm unable to find a babysitter?
¤ No. It is not fair to the other students who also paid for that class nor is it fair to your child. There are no exceptions!
Will I be able to get a refund after my class has started?
¤ Classes are non-refundable. However, if your class is canceled by Community Ed, then a full refund will be issued.
Will I receive a confirmation once I register for a class?
¤ When you register online, you will receive 2 confirmation emails through the email address you provide. Please be sure to type this address in correctly. The first email confirms that you have an account opened and the second email confirms your payment has been made. Once you register, an email notification will be sent to us. If you do not receive an email and/or just want to make sure your spot is being held, please call the office at 228.896.7622 to confirm.
