Hello, my name is Dave Huffman and I am the Construction Technology Instructor for the STEM Institute at Gulfport High School. Before becoming a teacher at GHS 10 years ago, I spent 23 years in the United States Air Force as a Civil Engineer, Structures Specialist. My time in the Air Force provided me with vast experience in Welding, sheet-metal fabrication, Carpentry, Masonry, Lock-smithing, project management and many other construction trades. However, what the Air Force taught me most was how to work with people! I am passionate about mentoring young men and women and helping them reach their full potential in teamwork, leadership, work ethic, and all the other "soft skills" necessary for success in life after high school.
I'm a firm believer in learning by doing, education through application and showing my students "why" they need to learn the skills taught in their Academic classes. I can assure you this isn't your typical "shop" class. The experience and skills learned by your student will be used no matter what career pathway they choose after graduating GHS.
