• Bayou View Middle School – Weekly Lesson Plans  -  Lesson Plans Are Subject to Change Based on Students’ Needs
    Teacher:  Borchardt/Fisher/Kitch
Week of November 28- December 2
    Subject:  Math 6
Classroom News/Due Dates:  12/2 MPT 2.2 (Assessment Grade), 12/5: Flocabulary: The Coordinate Plane (Daily Grade), 12/12: 8 iReady Lesson due (Assessment Grade), 12/14: DCA 2.2 9 weeks exam (Assessment Grade)
Words to understand, know, and apply: percent, survey, fraction, per, equivalent fraction, Equivalent Ratio, Rate, Unit Rate, Per, convert
Standards: Apply the following techniques in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problem solving
6.RP.A.2 Understand the concept of a unit rate a/b associated with a ratio a:b with b ≠ 0, and use rate language in the context of a ratio relationship. For example, “This recipe has a ratio of 3 cups of flour to 4 cups of sugar, so there is 3/4 cup of flour for each cup of sugar.” “We paid $75 for 15 hamburgers, which is a rate of $5 per hamburger.”
6.RP.A.3 Use ratio and rate reasoning to solve real-world and mathematical problems, e.g., by reasoning about tables of equivalent ratios, tape diagrams, double number line diagrams, or equations. 6.RP.A.3c Find a percent of a quantity as a rate per 100 (e.g., 30% of a quantity means 30/100 times the quantity); solve problems involving finding the whole, given a part and the percent.
6.RP.3a Use ratio and rate reasoning to solve real world and mathematical problems, e.g., by reasoning about tables of equivalent ratios, tape diagrams, double number line diagrams, or equations. a. Make tables of equivalent ratios relating quantities with whole-number measurements, find missing values in the tables, and plot the pairs of values on the coordinate plane. Use tables to compare ratios.

    Monday 11-28-22

6.RP.A.3 Use ratio and rate reasoning to solve real-world and mathematical problems. 6.RP.A.3c Find a percent of a quantity as a rate per 100 solve problems involving finding the whole, given a part and the percent.
ANTICIPATORY SET: How do percentages relate to decimals and fractions?
Teacher will observe students as they complete the teacher-assigned lesson on solving Problems with percents.
How do you find a missing percent, part, or whole?
TI/M) Teacher will ask questions throughout the iReady lesson video on Solve problems with Percents. GP/IP) Students will complete the quiz on Solve Problems with Percents on iReady.
Homework: Finish any unfinished class notes. Complete teacher assigned lesson on Solving Problems with Percents due Friday, December 2. 8 passed iReady lessons due 12/12 for an assessment grade.

    Tuesday 11-29-22
    DCA/RC review question
6.RP.3a Use ratio and rate reasoning to solve real world and mathematical problems, e.g., by reasoning about tables of equivalent ratios, tape diagrams, double number line diagrams, or equations. a. Make tables of equivalent ratios relating quantities with whole-number measurements, find missing values in the tables, and plot the pairs of values on the coordinate plane. Use tables to compare ratios.
ANTICIPATORY SET:  What operation would you use if you are going from a ratio to a unit rate?
Teachers will observe students as they work through today’s turkey task cards on percents
What are the different types of models or strategies we can use to find a missing percent?
TI/M) Teacher will review percent vocabulary and guided notes on percentages with proportions. GP/IP) Students will use turkey task cards to complete in pairs. Students will have a 2 min timer per card.Homework: Finish any unfinished class notes. Complete teacher assigned lesson on Solving Problems with Percents due Friday, December 2. 8 passed iReady lessons due 12/12 for an assessment grade.

    Wednesday 11-30-22
    DCA/RC review question

ANTIC SET: What are some keywords that help you determine the different parts of a percent proportion?
Teachers will assess students' understanding of all previously taught skills from the MPT 2.2 Study Guide.
Which problems take you longer to solve? Which ones are the easiest for you to solve?
TI/M) Teacher will review percent vocabulary and guided notes on percentages with proportions, ratios and unit rates. GP/IP) Students will work independently on MPT 2.2 study guide study guide for 20 minutes. Students will then rotate between partners checking their answers with each other. Homework: Finish any unfinished class notes. Complete teacher assigned lesson on Solving Problems with Percents due Friday, December 2. 8 passed iReady lessons due 12/12 for an assessment grade.
