    Monday, October 18:

    • BellworkThe students will complete the English Skill Builder “Punctuation #2” and review the correct answers.
    • Anticipatory Set: The teacher will discuss the agenda, essential question(s), and “I can” statements  for the week as written on the board.  The teacher will distribute the week's homework and review its directions.
    • Classwork: The Teacher will introduce the homework (“Amigo Brothers”) - story and questions)  and give instructions for its completion and due date.  The Teacher will work with students to read, discuss, and answer questions about “Glooskap and the Wasis” (Ready, pages 70-71).  The teacher and students will continue reading Phineas Gage.  Students will complete the Chapter 1: “Horrible Accident” in Vermont, p. 1-22 Guided Notes.
    • Early Finishers: Work on your homework in CommonLit ("Amigo Brothers").

    Tuesday, October 19:

    • BellworkThe students will write complete sentences using the conjunctions because, but, and so.
    • Anticipatory Set:The teacher will review vocabulary wall words summary, accurate, and objective.
    • Classwork: The Teacher will work with students to read, discuss, and answer questions about “Beowulf and Grendel” (Ready, pages 72-73).  The teacher and students will continue reading Phineas Gage.  Students will complete  the Chapter 1: “Horrible Accident” in Vermont, p. 1-22 Guided Notes.

    Wednesday, October 20:

    • BellworkThe students will answer a writing prompt: Do you think Phineas is lucky or unlucky for surviving his “horrible accident”?  Why?
    • Anticipatory Set: The students will partner up and share their writing.
    • Classwork: The Teacher will work with students to read and answer questions about “Gift from the Heavens” (Ready, pages 74-76).  The teacher and students will continue reading Phineas Gage.  Students will complete the Chapter 2: What We Thought About How We Thought, p. 23-42 Guided Notes.
    • Early Finishers: Work on your homework in CommonLit ("Amigo Brothers").

    Thursday, October 21:

    • BellworkThe students will research the following site: https://msktc.org/tbi/factsheets/Understanding-TBI/Brain-Injury-Impact-On-Individuals-Functioning and scroll to “Brain Areas & Associated Functions” to see the functions controlled by the 6 brain areas.
    • Anticipatory Set: The teacher will discuss the bellwork with the class as we analyze the extent of Phineas’s injury and infer other possible changes/conclusions had he injured a different area of his brain.  
    • ClassworkThe teacher and students will continue reading Phineas Gage.  Students will complete the Chapter 2: What We Thought About How We Thought, p. 23-42 Guided Notes.
    • Early Finishers: Work on your homework in CommonLit ("Amigo Brothers").

    Friday, October 22:

    • BellworkThe students will check the answers to their homework assignment.
    • Anticipatory Set: The teacher will discuss themes from “Amigo Brothers.”
    • Classwork: The teacher will go over this week’s homework assignment.  The teacher and students will continue reading Phineas Gage.  Students will complete the Chapter 2: What We Thought About How We Thought, p. 23-42 Guided Notes.  Students will turn in notes for a daily grade.  Students will write a summary of Phineas Gage Chapter 1, including main characters, setting, important events, conflict, conflict resolution, and theme.
    • Early Finishers: i-Ready Reading.
