On August 2, 2008 Pass Road Elementary and, most especially our Principal and his family, lost an irreplaceable icon of respect and life-long earnest champion of education.   Sr. Chief Petty Officer Robert Comer Hudson lost his two year battle with lung caner.

After an impressive and highly decorated twenty year career in the United States Navy, he moved his family to the Mississippi Gulf Coast and began his journey in education.   While an instructor in Vocational Education at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, Jackson County Campus, he was selected as the Teacher of the Year in 1984.   He continued to promote education and uplift children to the highest of their potentials to the very last.

The day Mr. Kenny Hudson became principal of our small school we were blessed to have been adopted by his father, Robert Hudson.   His pride in his family and his love for children showed through to anyone who was lucky enough to be graced by his presence.   His devotion to children never waned.   He never failed to enquire as to how our children were doing and came by to visit them as much as his health allowed.

Even though we are better people for having known him, Mr. Hudson will be missed by all.  It is for this reason our Parent Organization, students, and faculty held a Memorial for him and planted a Magnolia tree in his honor on August 26, 2008.   The Magnolia can be found on our campus in our school's peaceful garden just outside the office window facing the playground.   If you sit on one of the benches you can feel his love and ever-present calm surround you.   He is, and will forever continue to be, a strong and positive influence for all the children, families, and educators who pass through our doors here at Pass Road Elementary.
