Thank you for visiting our Bayou View Elementary webpage! I’m David Allen, the assistant principal of BVE since 2005. Honored to serve on principal Sandra Wilks’ team here at BVE, I fully embrace the GSD challenge of asking “What is best for children?” at each decision-making juncture. My teaching background is in band and performing arts, and I have also served as Gulfport School District’s School-to-Careers coordinator and Director of the GHS Academy of Travel & Tourism. This extensive background in authentically engaging students transfers logically to the busy world of elementary education at Bayou View, and I strive to motivate students and teachers alike to raise the bar of personal and collective excellence each and every day. I believe that the purpose of public education is to thoroughly prepare our children to become competitive in a 21st century global economy, and that this preparation begins in elementary school. In achieving this goal, it is my daily mission to ensure that the professional staff at Bayou View Elementary has all the resources necessary to engage children in their pursuit of excellence. The betterment of the children and staff of BVE is my professional purpose in life, and it is my personal privilege to be able to work with these fine people on a daily basis. It is an honor to serve this wonderful school, here in the community that I call my home. Outside of school, I am the choir director and organist at St. James Catholic Church in Gulfport, where I also serve on the Adult Religious Education Advisory Board. I am part-time organist at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Orange Grove, and St. Paul United Methodist Church in Ocean Springs. I enjoy serving as assistant director and accompanist with the Ocean Springs Civic Chorale, which performs locally and internationally. My wife, Kris McAllister Allen, is a pediatric nurse practitioner in Long Beach, and we have two wonderful children: Callie Langworthy, a senior at Franciscan University in Ohio, and Erin Langworthy, a sophomore at the University of Oklahoma. Again, thank you for visiting our webpage, and please stop by for a visit (and a tour!) the next time you are in our neighborhood. Yours In Education, David W. Allen |
