Community Education
What is Community Education?
Community Education is a unique public relations tool that provides an immeasurable amount of community goodwill for the school district. Community Education has a long tradition of offering quality non-accredited courses, as well as business and industry training to the community. For thirty years, our staff has monitored the needs and interests of Gulf Coast residents to provide the most up-to-date and innovative curriculum possible. Why take a Community Education class?
Community Education brings community members together to identify and link community needs and resources in a manner that helps people to help themselves and to raise the quality of life in their communities. Community Education offers two sessions each year with a wide variety of affordable courses designed to meet the needs of the community. From vocational classes to arts and crafts, Community Education has it all!
- Thousands of citizens have earned job skills and are successful in the workplace as a direct result of this program.
- We offer accessible, affordable education to our citizens
- Citizens learn new hobbies
How do we do it?
The success of a community education program relies on the active involvement of our citizens as well as the support of our school district. School facilities are used throughout each session with the majority of our classes being held in the evenings at Gulfport High School. We also use the gyms at Pass Road Elementary and at Bayou View Elementary for dance and exercise classes which are very popular within the community.
Some of the Gulfport School District’s employees are now teaching courses for us, and we are proud of the work they do. Their passion, knowledge, and commitment help to make our program a success.
