2 batches Buttercream frosting (recipe below) Scissors 2 bowls
Students also need to bring one 10" round, unfrosted cake
BUTTERCREAM FROSTING: Ingredients:
* 1 cup solid vegetable shortening
* 1 tsp. butter or margarine softened
* 1 tsp. vanilla extract 1 tsp. Wilton flavor 1/2 tsp. almond extract
* 4 cups sifted confectioners sugar (approximately 1 lb.)
* 7-8 tsp. milk or water 1 Tblsp. Wilton meringue powder pinch of salt (optional)
Instructions:
In large bowl, cream shortening and butter with electric mixer. Add vanilla. Gradually add sugar, one cup at a time, beating well on medium speed. Scrape sides and bottom of bowl often. When all sugar has been mixed in, icing will appear dry. Add milk and beat at medium speed until light and fluffy. Keep bowl covered with a damp cloth until ready to use.
For best result, keep icing bowl in refrigerator when not in use. Refrigerated in airtight container, this icing can be stored 2 weeks. Rewhip before using.

Register now for Community Education classes. Classes start the week of February 27, 2012. You may register by phone with Discover, MasterCard or Visa (credit/debit), or stop by our office and our friendly staff will be happy to assist you (check or money order). Checks should be made payable to Community Education. Returned checks will be assessed a $40 service fee. Registrations are processed in the order they are received and class fee must be paid in full.
