Tracy Daniel, instructional technology and assessment specialist; Penny Rodrique, instructional technology specialist; and Kay Whitworth, GHS 12th grade English teacher, have initiated The Whitworth Project, incorporating technology into the classroom. Mrs. Whitworth’s first block English 12 class is participating in the project, which began this January and will continue through May. The students are taking their popular Senior Book Projects and making an electronic portfolio. The students have already developed their individual Web sites and will be applying technology skills to develop each of the fourteen “chapters” of the book. The final portfolio will be presented using PowerPoint, Producer, or FrontPage. Students are developing their projects in the newly renovated GHS Internet computer lab. The lab has all new computers, a multi-media presentation Promethean board, and a scanner. The lab has been provided by a grant Terri Burnham received from a New York law office, Thelen Reid Brown Raysman and Steiner as a part of the Thelen Hurricane/Rita Relief Initiative. A final presentation of the students’ books is planned early in May. Representatives of the Thelen Hurricane/Rita Relief Initiative will see the presentation. |
