| As the speech pathologist at
Central Elementary, I work with students who have language/speech
disorders in the area of articulation, language, voice, or fluency as well
as students who have hearing problems. Each student who obtains
Mississippi eligibility in the area of language/speech is serviced based
on his or her own needs. These needs are determined by an Individual
Education Program committee which includes parents and/or guardians.
If your child attends Central Elementary and you have concerns that your child may have a speech, language, or hearing problem, please contact your child's teacher to discuss a possible referral for an assessment. If your child is a preschooler with suspected problems, services are available through the Gulfport School District's Preschool Program. Students with speech and hearing difficulty often have academic concerns if these speech and hearing problems are not addressed. Early intervention is always recommended. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the Gulfport School District's Special Education Department.
